Exhibition opens in July 2025
Exploring Time presents a set of extraordinary watercolor diaries that tell of nature’s processes in some of the wildest places on Earth. Evidence of geological change, biological change, as well as human-induced change are present in Foster’s landscapes. His experienced eye locates nature’s power, its fragility and adaptability, including places where industrial sites have been reclaimed.
While we have become accustomed to focusing on environmental change through dramatic images of a warming planet, Foster’s exhibition takes the long view. He is interested in Earth’s on-going evolution, in how time makes itself evident and how change remains ever-present in the natural world. Dividing the exhibition into four groupings—geologic, biologic, human time and fleeting moments—enables audiences to connect to the understanding of millennia as readily as the timespan of a human life while wrestling with the realities of humanity’s footprint.
This David Schendel film short will be included in Tony Foster’s 19th Journey, Exploring Time: A Painter’s Perspective, opening July 8, 2025, at the Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery, Truro, England.
